Rabbir-hamhuma: the dua from Surah Al-Isra

Quran 17:24رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًاRabbir-hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.O my Lord, have mercy on them both, as they brought me up when I was small.Quran, Al-Isra 17:24. English meaning based on Kanz-ul-Iman (Imam Ahmad Raza Khan).

In the verse before it, Allah commands kindness to parents and forbids saying even “uff” to them (Al-Isra 17:23).

What is the best dua for parents?

The dua Allah teaches in the Quran: “Rabbir-hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira” (Al-Isra 17:24).

Can I make dua for parents who have passed away?

Yes, and it benefits them. The Prophet ﷺ said that when a person dies his deeds end except three, one of which is a righteous child who prays for him (Sahih Muslim 1631).

When should I make dua for my parents?

At any time, and especially at the times when duas are accepted, such as in sujood (Sahih Muslim 482) and in the last third of the night (Sahih al-Bukhari 1145).
