How Is Your Age in Hijri Years Calculated?
The Hijri (Islamic) calendar follows the moon. Each month begins with the new crescent and lasts 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year has 354 or 355 days. That is about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year of 365 or 366 days.
Because each Hijri year is shorter, you complete Hijri years a little faster. Over time the gap adds up: every 33 Gregorian years are roughly 34 Hijri years. That is why your Islamic age is usually higher than the age on your passport.
Quick formula: Hijri age ≈ Gregorian age × 1.0307 (365.2425 ÷ 354.367 days).
Example: someone who is 30 in Gregorian years is about 30.9 Hijri years old, so their 31st Hijri birthday is only about a month away.
The calculator above does the exact work for you. It converts your date of birth with the Umm al-Qura calendar, then counts complete Hijri years, months and days up to today.

Why Your Hijri Age Matters in Islam
Islamic rulings count time with the lunar calendar, so the ages and periods mentioned in fiqh are Hijri ages, not solar ones.
- Newborns: the Sunnah is to perform the Aqiqah, shave the baby's head and give the name on the seventh day after birth (Jami at-Tirmidhi 1522). For a baby under one Hijri year, the calculator shows the Aqiqah day.
- Prayer for children: the Prophet ﷺ instructed parents to tell their children to pray at the age of seven (Sunan Abi Dawud 495). Parents can use the calculator to see when their child turns seven in Hijri years.
- Reaching adulthood (bulugh): when no physical signs of puberty appear, the Hanafi, Shafi'i and Hanbali schools count a child as baligh at 15 lunar years. From then on, prayer, fasting and the other duties of Islam are obligatory.
- Zakat: Zakat is due once savings above the nisab have been held for one full lunar year (hawl), not a solar year. Our Zakat Calculator helps you work it out.
- The age of forty: Surah Al-Ahqaf (46:15) mentions a person reaching forty and the dua they make: asking Allah to help them be grateful for His favours, to do deeds that please Him, and to make their children righteous.
For rulings that apply to you or your children, please ask a qualified scholar.
How to Find Your Hijri Date of Birth
Enter your Gregorian date of birth in the calculator and it shows your Hijri date of birth in English and Arabic, together with the weekday you were born. To convert any other date, use our Hijri Date Converter.
Your family records may show a Hijri date one day earlier or later. That is normal: the calculator uses the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar, while many countries, including Pakistan, begin each month by local moon sighting. Use the moon sighting adjustment under More options to match your local calendar.
Which Hijri Year Were You Born In?
A Gregorian year usually covers parts of two Hijri years, because the Islamic New Year (1 Muharram) moves about 11 days earlier every year. Find your birth year below to see which Hijri years it covers and when the Hijri year changed. For your exact Hijri date of birth, use the calculator above.

When Is My Hijri Birthday This Year?
Your Hijri birthday is the day your Hijri date of birth comes round again. Because the Hijri year is shorter, it moves about 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar every year, and it can even fall twice in the same Gregorian year. The calculator lists your next five Hijri birthdays with their Gregorian dates, and you can add them all to your phone calendar in one tap.
If you were born on the 30th of a Hijri month and that month has only 29 days in a given year, the calculator uses the 29th.
Many families mark the day with dua, gratitude and charity. Scholars differ on celebrating birthdays, so follow the guidance of your local scholar.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my age in Hijri years?
Enter your date of birth in the Islamic age calculator above. It converts the date to the Hijri calendar and counts complete Hijri years, months and days up to today. As a rough guide, your Hijri age is your Gregorian age multiplied by 1.0307.
Why is my Islamic age higher than my normal age?
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 days fewer than a Gregorian year, so you complete Hijri years faster. The difference grows by about one year for every 33 years of life.

Is this Islamic age calculator accurate?
It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia, based on the official tables for 1356 to 1500 AH (1937 to 2077). Local moon sighting can move a Hijri date by a day, so you can shift the result by one or two days under More options.
