What Questions 28 to 34 Revise
Page 65 continues the revision section with questions 28 to 34 on Lessons 13, 14, 15. Each topic is explained below in our own words, with an example and a link back to the lesson. Use the page as a quiz: ask the question, let your child answer, then check.
Ghunnah on Noon and Meem with Tashdeed
A Mushaddad Noon or Meem is always read with Ghunnah, which means holding the sound in the nose. Its length is one Alif, about two counts: اِنَّ, ثُمَّ. Back to Lesson 13 (page 38).
Idgham and the Yarmaloon letters
Idgham means merging. When one of the six Yarmaloon letters (ی ر م ل و ن) starts the next word, the Noon merges into it. With ی م و ن the merge has Ghunnah (مَنْ يَّقُوْلُ); with ر ل it has none (مِنْ رَّبِّكَ). Back to Lesson 14 (page 42).
Iqlab
Before ب, a Noon Saakinah or Tanween turns into a Meem and is read with Ghunnah, as a hidden Meem. The Quran marks it with a small Meem: مِنْۢ بَعْدِ “mim-ba‘di”. Back to Lesson 14 (page 42).
The three rules of Meem Saakinah
Idgham Shafawi: another Meem follows, the two merge with Ghunnah (لَكُمْ مَّا). Ikhfa Shafawi: ب follows, the Meem is hidden with Ghunnah (هُمْ بِهٖ). Izhar Shafawi: any other letter follows, the Meem is clear, no Ghunnah (اَلَمْ تَرَ). Back to Lesson 15 (page 44).
