What Questions 35 to 40 Revise
Page 66 continues the revision section with questions 35 to 40 on Lessons 15, 16. Each topic is explained below in our own words, with an example and a link back to the lesson. Use the page as a quiz: ask the question, let your child answer, then check.
The three rules of Meem Saakinah
Idgham Shafawi: another Meem follows, the two merge with Ghunnah (لَكُمْ مَّا). Ikhfa Shafawi: ب follows, the Meem is hidden with Ghunnah (هُمْ بِهٖ). Izhar Shafawi: any other letter follows, the Meem is clear, no Ghunnah (اَلَمْ تَرَ). Back to Lesson 15 (page 44).
Tafkheem and Tarqeeq
Tafkheem is reading a letter thick (full); Tarqeeq is reading it thin. The seven heavy letters are always thick. Alif, Lam and Ra change between thick and thin depending on their position. Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
The Lam of the name of Allah
After a Fathah or Dammah, the Lam in اللّٰه is thick: وَاللّٰهُ, رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ. After a Kasrah it is thin: بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ. Every other Lam is thin. Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
Thick and thin Alif
Alif copies the letter before it: thick after a thick letter (قَالَ), thin after a thin one (كَانَ). Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
