What Questions 51 to 56 Revise
Page 69 continues the revision section with questions 51 to 56 on Lessons 17, 19, 20. Each topic is explained below in our own words, with an example and a link back to the lesson. Use the page as a quiz: ask the question, let your child answer, then check.
Madd Lazim and Leen Lazim
An original Sukoon or Tashdeed after a Letter of Maddah gives Madd Lazim (جَآنٌّ); after a Letter of Leen it gives Leen Lazim (عٓ). Both are stretched 3 Alif (6 counts), the longest Madd. Back to Lesson 17 (page 48).
Madd ‘Aarid and Leen ‘Aarid
When you stop on a word, its last letter becomes Saakin. If a Letter of Maddah comes before it, that is Madd ‘Aarid (الْعٰلَمِيْنَ at a stop); after a Letter of Leen, Leen ‘Aarid (خَوْفٍ at a stop). Either may be stretched 1, 2 or 3 Alif (2, 4 or 6 counts). Back to Lesson 17 (page 48).
The Za’id (extra) Alif
An Alif with a small circle on it (ا۟) is extra. In most places it is never read. In six words (اَنَا and five others) it is read only when you stop, and in سَلٰسِلَا reading it at a stop is optional. Back to Lesson 19 (page 51).
Izhar Mutlaq
In دُنْيَا, بُنْيَانٌ, صِنْوَانٌ and قِنْوَانٌ a Yarmaloon letter comes after the Noon in the same word. Idgham only happens across two words, so the Noon is clear and there is no Ghunnah. Back to Lesson 20 (page 52).
