What Questions 63 to 69 Revise

Page 71 continues the revision section with questions 63 to 69 on Lessons 21. Each topic is explained below in our own words, with an example and a link back to the lesson. Use the page as a quiz: ask the question, let your child answer, then check.

Waqf (stopping) and the last letter

Waqf means stopping: voice and breath both end on the last letter. A final Fathah, Kasrah, Dammah, Kasratayn, Dammatayn, Khari Zer or Ulta Pesh becomes Saakin (نَسْتَعِيْنْ); a final Fathatayn becomes an Alif (اَحَدَا). Back to Lesson 21 (page 54).

Round Ta at a stop

A word ending in a round Ta (ة), whatever its vowel or Tanween, is read with a Saakin Ha at a stop: رَحْمَةٌ becomes “raḥmah”. Back to Lesson 21 (page 54).

Noon Qutni

When a Tanween is followed by a Hamzah Wasli, the Hamzah drops when joining and the hidden Noon of the Tanween takes a Kasrah. The Quran shows it with a small Noon: نُوْحُ ۨابْنَهٗ “nooḥu-nibnahu”. Back to Lesson 21 (page 54).

The first four signs of Waqf

SignWhat it tells you
