What Questions 40 to 43 Revise
Page 67 continues the revision section with questions 40 to 43 on Lessons 16. Each topic is explained below in our own words, with an example and a link back to the lesson. Use the page as a quiz: ask the question, let your child answer, then check.
Thick and thin Alif
Alif copies the letter before it: thick after a thick letter (قَالَ), thin after a thin one (كَانَ). Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
When Ra is thick
Seven cases: a Fathah or Dammah on the Ra; Fathatayn or Dammatayn; a Khara Zabar; a Ra Saakinah after a Fathah or Dammah; after a temporary Kasrah (اِرْجِعْ); after a Kasrah in the previous word (رَبِّ ارْحَمْ); and a heavy letter after a Ra Saakinah in the same word (مِرْصَادٍ). Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
When Ra is thin
Three cases: a Kasrah or Kasratayn under the Ra (رِجَالٌ); a Ra Saakinah after an original Kasrah in the same word (فَاصْبِرْ); and a Ra Saakinah after a Ya Saakinah, as when stopping on خَيْرٌ. Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
Temporary (‘Aridi) Kasrah
Some Quranic words start with an Alif that has no vowel. When you begin reading from such a word you give the Alif a vowel, and that vowel is temporary: the Kasrah in اِرْجِعِيْ. A temporary Kasrah does not make the Ra after it thin. Back to Lesson 16 (page 45).
