Madni Qaida in English Page 30 – Lesson 10: Quranic Words Practice

Welcome to Madni Qaida in English Page 30 at Learning Quraan. Page 30 is a dense practice page of words taken from the Quran, applying every rule learnt in Lessons 1 to 9.

This page is part of Lesson 10: Revision of All Previous Rules. See every page on the Madni Qaida in English index, or learn with a teacher in our online Quran courses.

What is on Madni Qaida in English Page 30?

  • Words such as رسله, عليه, صلوة and زكوة.
  • Names such as موسى, عيسى, هرون and سليمن.
  • Words with Tanween and Maddah together, such as قومًا and ميقاتًا.

How to Practise This Page

  • Read every word with Hijjay first, then Rawan.
  • When spelling, join each letter to the one before it.
  • Check each word for Harakaat, Tanween, Maddah, Khari Harakaat and Leen before reading it.

Sixty Words, Five Skills

Page 30 continues Lesson 10 with sixty words. Each one mixes at least two earlier rules. Grouping them by the rule they practise makes the page easier to work through; the table shows a selection from each group with a reading guide:

Four Things This Page Teaches

  • A written letter can be silent. In صَلٰوةً and زَكٰوةً the Waw is written but not read: the Khara Zabar gives the long “aa”. The same is true of the Ya in عِيْسٰى and مُوْسٰى.
  • Two long vowels in a row. سَمٰوٰتٍ and بِاٰيٰتِنَا have a Khara Zabar twice; stretch both.
  • Hamzah in the middle of a word. In يَوْمَئِذٍ and اَرَءَيْتَ the Hamzah is a clear catch in the throat, even mid-word.
  • Leen next to Maddah. سُلَيْمٰنَ has a Ya Leen and then a Khara Zabar: “su-lay-maa-na”. One glides, the other stretches.

Found in the Quran

Surah al-Buruj alone has four of the words on this page. Some of the places they occur:

WordWhere it occurs
لَوْحٍ · مَحْفُوْظٍSurah al-Buruj 85:22
قُعُوْدٌSurah al-Buruj 85:6
شُهُوْدٌSurah al-Buruj 85:7
وَدُوْدٌSurah Hud 11:90
خِتٰمُهٗSurah al-Mutaffifin 83:26
مِهٰدًاSurah an-Naba 78:6
يَوْمَئِذٍSurah az-Zalzalah 99:4
اَرَءَيْتَSurah al-Ma‘un 107:1
سَلٰمٌSurah al-Qadr 97:5
عٰلِمُSurah al-Hashr 59:22
قُرَيْشٍSurah Quraysh 106:1

Inside a verse a word can join the next one, and later rules (stopping, Noon Saakin and Tanween) can change how it ends. Here each word is read on its own, as written.

Mistakes to Watch For

  • Reading the silent Waw in صَلٰوةً (“ṣalawatan” is wrong).
  • Rushing past the Ulta Pesh in مَقَامُهٗ and the Khari Zer in قَوْمِهٖ.
  • Merging Ain and Hamzah: عَلَيْهِ and اِلَيْهِ must sound different.
  • Thinning the heavy letters in صَوَابًا, خِتٰمُهٗ and قُرَيْشٍ.

A Five-Minute Practice Plan

  1. Minute 1: read the Khara Zabar group from the table.
  2. Minute 2: read the Leen group, keeping every Leen short.
  3. Minute 3: spell سُلَيْمٰنَ and يَوْمَئِذٍ the joined way, then read them Rawan.
  4. Minute 4: read the last two rows of the page.
  5. Minute 5: read the Check Yourself line below.
